Jakarta Islamic Neuro Science Week (JINS Week), which is an annual agenda for the Faculty of Medicine and Health, Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (FKK UMJ), will be held again. Still in the series of the 20th FKK UMJ Anniversary, JINS Week 2023 is scheduled for 24-26 November 2023 with the theme Neuro Geriatric Science Update.

The theme is in line with FKK UMJ's mission in developing the field of geriatrics. This was conveyed by Dr. Zainy Hamzah, Sp.BS., FKK UMJ lecturer who is the Chief Executive of JINS Week 2023.

"So we matched the mission with the field of neurology and neurosurgery. "So we explored these potentials to get the theme of neuro science in geriatrics," said Zainy when asked for information on Friday (06/10/2023).

Several sub-themes that will be discussed at the seminar include stem cell therapy and will feature speakers from Airlangga University , namely Prof. Dr. Dr. Abdul Hafid Bajamal, Sp.BS., and Dr. Dr. Asra Alfauzi, Sp.BS(K). Based on Zainy's statement, dr. Asra is the first doctor in Indonesia who dares to implant stem cells directly into the brain in post-stroke patients.

Meanwhile, in the workshop session, Zainy explained that the participants would be guided to carry out surgical techniques that are rarely used in workshops in general. Some of the techniques that Zainy mentioned include keyhole clipping aneurism , which is an operation to clip abnormalities in the blood vessels of the brain using only a small hole behind the eye.

Apart from that, there are techniques for removing tumors through the nose and several other techniques. “There are techniques that, outside of JINS, are rarely performed on cadavers. "Participants will be guided from the beginning of selecting blood vessels in the head to connecting the blood vessels," he added.

The workshop will be held on the second and third days using cadavers at the FKK UMJ Anatomy Laboratory. Zainy explained that Lab. FKK UMJ Anatomy is one of the favorite laboratories because it can process cadavers well so that they resemble living people. So participants can more clearly learn neurosurgical techniques.

JINS Week 2023 will open a registration quota of only 20 workshop participants in mid-October 2023. Meanwhile, the seminar session on the first day can be attended by students, specialist students and doctors.

Zainy explained that through JINS Week 2023, participants will gain enlightenment regarding stem cells which are widely misused as if for business purposes. "The stem cell effect is still in the research stage, so through JINS Week 2023 we will provide an explanation regarding this," he stressed.

Meanwhile, workshop participants can train their confidence in performing neurosurgical techniques guided by Dr. Zainy Hamzah, Sp.BS., and other neurosurgeons. Information regarding JINS Week 2023 can be accessed via the official website ( www.umj.ac.id ) and UMJ's official social media accounts.
