The Faculty of Medicine and Health, Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (FKK UMJ) held a hybrid public lecture with History Medicine , at the Dr. Auditorium. Syafri Guricci FKK UMJ, Thursday, (15/09/2023).
This activity is part of the series of opening the 20th Anniversary of FKK UMJ. In his speech, Deputy Dean I dr. Risky Akaputra, Sp.P, said that the FKK UMJ Anniversary was a momentum to carry out evaluations to improve achievements so that they could get superior accreditation.
"Twenties are neither young nor old, now is an age that is enthusiastic about producing increased achievements for Faculties, Institutions and Universities," concluded Risky.
FKK UMJ presented a resource person, one of the founders of FKK UMJ and a neurosurgeon, namely Prof. Dr. Dr. Andi Asadul Islam, Sp. BS (K) and moderated by the Head of the FKK UMJ surgery department, dr. Zainy Hamzah, Sp.BS.
Zainy conveyed that the theme of the public lecture was raised in line with the Anniversary celebration to trace back the history of the founding of FKK UMJ because science is closely related to history.
"By taking the theme of the History of Medicine lecture , as has been explained, the science we currently know is not the first, in fact it has existed before, marked by artifacts that have been discovered. "So in accordance with the theme for this Dies Natalis, we want to return home, remember history and invite the founders and alumni of FKK UMJ," concluded Zainy.
In his presentation session, Andi explained the historical process of medical science in the context of neurosurgery starting from Prehistoric Procedure, Primitive Times, Egyptian, The Greek People, Ancient Romans, Dark and Middle Ages, to The Renaissance.
Furthermore, this neurosurgeon emphasized that current medical science is not something new or the first, the development of medical science began a long time ago. “I always say there is nothing new under the sun. "So what we are learning today, our predecessors have already done it in other forms," said Andi.
Andi advised students to continue to innovate, because innovation is not creating something new but making changes and improvements from its initial form. "Medical science is lifelong learning, let's always learn until the grave," concluded Andi.

This public lecture closed with the beating of the gong and cutting of the tumpeng as a sign of the opening of the FKK UMJ Dies Natalis series. The highlight of the event will be held next November.
