Ftan UMJ student Reza Firdaus while taking part in a road race.
As an agrotechnology student at the Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (UMJ), Reza Firdaus has hobbies that are not limited to just one field. He loves the world of racing, which has given him many incredible experiences. Reza also proved that the automotive sport he is involved in is not as bad as some people think.
Reza became interested in the world of motorbike racing when he was in junior high school. At that time, many of his friends, who were older, were involved in road races , street motorbike racing events which were officially contested on special tracks. Even though it looks the same, road racing is different from wild motorbike racing.
“One of the obstacles I experienced was my parents' approval. "At that time, my parents still considered motorbike racing to be a negative activity," recalled Reza.
Rejection from his parents did not extinguish Reza's enthusiasm. Secretly he started racing. After some time, with the support of his older brother, Reza began to have the courage to tell his parents honestly that he had taken part in official Yamaha motorbike racing. Reza explained that the championship he was taking part in was an official championship organized by automotive companies that like to hold sporting events.
“The first race I took part in was a championship event organized by Yamaha. Until now I am still participating in the championship. Because at that time it was still very early, the capital equipment and costs were all personal funds. "Training is only minimal," said Reza.
The experience of taking part in a championship for the first time made Reza interested in continuing to take part in motorbike racing championships.
“I thought, if other people can do it, why can't I? "One of my motivations is also because I like Valentino Rossi," he stressed.
Finally, Reza diligently participated in various motorbike racing championships. He also often emerged as the champion. Even in one championship, Reza can win 3 to 4 champions at once. This could happen because Reza often participates in races with three different types of motorbikes, namely automatic, duck and sport at once.
"An experience that I can't forget is making my family and UMJ proud. That was while participating in the Yamaha championship. I managed to become the overall champion with almost perfect points, 70 points, with a distance of 4500 meters in one round. "At that time I managed to spend approximately 20 minutes in 8 rounds," said Reza.
Last August, Reza also took part in a championship held by Yamaha at the Mandalika circuit, Lombok.
"It was a wonderful new experience," he said.
Reza Firdaus wins General Champion at the Yamaha Sunday Race at the Sentul International Circuit, Sunday (23/10/2022).
Reza then explained that in every race he had to take part in 3 sessions, namely practice, qualifying time and rest. Reza admitted that in every race you have to prepare well physically, get enough exercise, do physical fitness training, and also have to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Of course, Reza also had an accident while racing. His motorbike was damaged, but Reza still tried to continue racing. Reza's biggest motivation to get up was seeing the hard work of mechanics helping him prepare for the championship. This inspired him to become a champion.
Reza is a UMJ student who also plays an active role in the BEM FTAN organization as head of the economic and creative sector. Reza chose agriculture because of his parents' background as ornamental plant farmers. Reza firmly said that he did not rule out the possibility of becoming a young farmer or a racer in the future. Even if he is a farmer, he can still fill his free time by racing motorbikes.
“I hope that in the future I can remain active as a racer. I also feel grateful because while studying at UMJ I had a comfortable environment and my friends always supported me. "Hopefully there will be UMJ students who can continue in my footsteps as a racer," said Reza.
Reza advised that apart from upgrading themselves with education, students must also continue to pursue hobbies which can become a proud achievement.
"Of course it's smart to divide your time and don't get carried away in the world of playing, always be active and ask your parents for their blessing," said Reza, closing the conversation.
