Muhammadiyah University Jakarta (UMJ) will open a therapy center for children with special needs (ABK) as an implementation of collaboration with Hospital Penawar Malaysia . Collaborating with the Depok City Government , an ABK therapy center will be opened at Depok City Hall. This plan was presented at a meeting between Deans at the Rectorate Building, Tuesday (19/09/2023).

Deputy Chancellor III UMJ, Dr. Rini Fatma Kartika, S.Ag., MH, welcomed the implementation of the therapy center. He said that follow-up on the cooperation that had been established must be carried out in order to maintain synergy. "Because there is already an MoU, all that remains is to follow up in the form of an ABK clinic which will be held in Depok. "Hopefully this activity will be carried out soon," said Rini.

Previously, UMJ had often held seminars, coaching clinics and short courses with the Malaysian Nursing Hospital. The person in charge of the therapy center program, Dr. Suharsiwi, M.Pd., explained that the Depok City Government has a program that it wants to implement, namely the disability posyandu.

"To further strengthen synergy, we invite every faculty at UMJ to contribute to programs such as the Faculty of Education (FIP), Faculty of Medicine and Health (FKK), Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI) and other faculties," said Siwi.

Responding to this, the Dean of FIP UMJ, Prof. Dr. Iswan, M.Si., stated that FIP will help to provide teachers to accompany students with special needs. Therefore, there needs to be training for certified accompanying teachers. The lack of accompanying teachers in every school, especially in Depok city schools, hampers the learning process of students with special needs.

Apart from discussing plans to build a ABK therapy center, Founder of Penawar Medical Group Hospital Penawar Malaysia, Dr. Mohd Adnan bin Sulaiman, highlighted the Indonesian Autism Submit program which will be implemented in 2024. This activity aims to provide tips that lead to the system of caring for children with special needs in Indonesia. This meeting was also attended by Deputy Chancellor IV, Dr. Septa Candra, SH, MH, and all Faculty Deans.
